Description:

At the end of 20th century, a very important event occurred: two very far from each other fields of physics – high energy physics investigating the matter at smallest distances, and astrophysics investigating the matter at largest dimensions – were united into a new field of physics: astroparticle physics. Master’s program “High energy physics and astrophysics” is directed to studies of various aspects of this new field: methods and results obtained in particle physics at accelerators and in investigations of various astrophysical objects. Therefore the program is useful for people who are interested in these problems and want to work in this perspective field.

Unique feature of the program is a very deep association of theoretical and practical directions of education. Each student gets a personal scientific task at the beginning of the first semester. During two years, a student must solve a selected task, write scientific paper(s) and prepare Master’s Thesis at the end of the second year. This practical and scientific work can be fulfilled in NRNU MEPhI at unique facilities, in Russian and foreign research centers.

Career opportunities:

As shows the experience of several generations of students who completed the program of “High energy physics and astrophysics” and defended Master’s Thesis, they have universal and problem-specialized competences and can find a job in various fields of physics, technologies, innovations, computer techniques, etc.

Places of future work may be scientific institutions, accelerator centers, cosmophysical observatories, big computer centers. The main advantage of students who master this program is the skill of not only solving complex problems, but formulating new tasks that contribute to rapid advancement practically in any field of the future activity.
